Leucadendron harlequin is a low maintenance shrub with low water requirements. It flourishes in well drained acidic soil with a low pH. Moderate frost tolerance allows for adaptable placement in various climates. Regular pruning can be done to shape and maintain the compact form. Grow best in full sun. The plants will grow in partial shade, but the blooms are not as colorful without full sun. When pruning a leucadendron grown in a pot or as a houseplant, wait until it is finished blooming and remove spent blooms and damaged or crowded foliage
